Voices Emerge 2008 MTV!

This blog is the homepage and diary of NUS Students' Cultural Activities Club- V.O.I.C.E.S. More commonly known as NUS-CAC Voices, the premier Mando-pop performing club in NUS. Over here you will find write-ups and video coverages of our past events and performances. Information on our up-coming events will also be listed here.

Voices will be having our annual major production called Emerge 2008 at the Ministry of Sound (MOS) on the 27th of March. It will be a live concert with our very own live band bringing you the latest Mando songs. Genre of songs include ballads, rock, acapella, dance from artistes like 周杰伦，林俊杰，张惠妹，梁静茹，FIR, Mayday and many more.

About us

The premier Mandarin pop singing and performing group in NUS, made up of talented and passionate vocalists and instrumentalists who think, live and breathe music. Having performed at many internal and external events, Voices have garnered a reputation for delivering quality live performances.

Our club consists of 30 over memebers who come together from all faculties around NUS. We have been constantly improving ourselves ever since Voices started performing publicly. Do feel free to leave comments in our blog as you browse through our past performances. We look forward to hearing more from our audiences.

Q. What songs can you play?

English pop/ballads/oldies-
From soothing Ballades (Martina McBride’s My Valentine) to evergreen Oldies (Carpenter’s Close to You) to Rock songs (Muse’s Hysteria). We’ll do it LIVE for you ;)

Mandarin pop/ballads/oldies -
We do mainly mandarin pop, so this is undoubtedly our area of specialty!!! From songs off the pop charts to newly released songs, you name it, we will do it, specially for you and your event!!!

Cantonese/Hokkien/Japanese ... Yes, we’ll learn the song, lyrics just for your event.

Acarpella – On previous performances, we’ve done David Tao’s rendition of 望春风. Proud to say, it has been very well-received.

Q. Can you learn this song for me?

Absolutely.
We will learn any song for you :)

Q. Can I sing a song during my event on that night?

Sure!
Our musicians would love to accompany for you.

Q: Can I make special requests (eg. A certain song to be performed at a particular part?)?

Yes please!!!
We want to make your event as special and memorable as it is for us. =)

Q. Must the songs performed be live band songs?

Of course not. We can do minus one (track w/o vocalists), unplugged, etc. We’re highly flexible with the arrangement with regards to the band.

Q. Now, for THE QUESTION...Why should I engage Voices?

We are NUS undergraduates who have a passion for music and performance. Being a non-profit organisation, our rates for school and private functions are definitely reasonably and competitively priced.

We believe in keeping your guests entertained,
and making your night special for you as it is for us.

Everyone has different preferences for vocals and music,

Funkamania Performance

Funkamania is the annual tertiary's dance performance organized by NUS CAC. It was held at the youth park in somerset this year! We are honoured to be invited to perform for the pre-segment of the event.

Mini Concert

The ending of the first semester for the academic year is something what many of us were looking forward to. For 2 consecutive years since the inaugural mini concert in 2006, we organized free concerts for our friends in NUS after much acclaim from the people who attended them

The mini concerts that we organized are ways of appreciating the audiences who had been supporting us for many years. Every year, we hope to bring surprises to the audiences.

Below are the innovative songs and numbers from our usual repetoire that mesmerized the audiences that night.. =)

NUSSU Welfare Bazaar

This year's NUSSU Welfare Bazaar was incorporated with Mediacorp's new reality show "HeyGeorgeous"! NUSSU Welfare Bazaar is always considered as one of the biggest bazaar held in campus! It is always packed with students at any time of the day~

This year, we were honoured to be invited again to perform for them in this big bazaar! =)

Welcome Tea

Every semester, we will recruit new batch of talented singers and band members. This is the welcome tea that we had done for the new recruitment of 07/08!! We welcome all freshies on board! =))

It was held at the YIH function room. That night was filled with fun,laughter and music..

And of course, surprises from the band that took our breath away..

Rag 07 @ Padang

NUS Rag day is a joint collaboration between NUSSU, our Faculty Clubs and the Halls of Residences. It is a day where dazzling parade of floats created by the faculty Clubs and Halls of Residences will be showcasted to everyone. It has always been an event that is confined to the grounds of NUS. However, for this year's Rag, it was brought outside to the Padang where the public are able to feel the heat and passion with us.

In this year Rag, we are honoured to be invited to sing at NUS Rag Day @ Padang on 11th August 2007. =)

Emerge 2008

Emerge is Voices’ very own production and is in its 5th year running. It is a major event to showcase all the singing and performing talents within Voices. For the past 3 years, Voices have been doing a fusion of Chinese drama and Mandarin pop songs, it has been well received ever since.

This year, we would be breaking away from traditions and moving into a totally new ground with Emerge 2008. Moving away from the past musical themes, Emerge 2008 will be a live, concert based performance. It would be held at the Ministry of Sound on the 27th March 2008. Stage presence, vocal prowess and our live band accompaniment will take centre-stage during this performance. We are boldy moving away from our past musical themes to bring our audiences a much more direct and up close feel of Voices. Returning to roots, as we say, of performing and entertaining live.

The theme for Emerge 2008 is 色 , 情, aka 'Colours evoke Emotions'. We aim to bring our audiences on a journey through different emotions with our specially selected songs for the event. Colours that we'll be using to bring out the emotions deep inside you include, black, blue, white, red and yellow. A special clip will be tied to each colour segment, linking up the entire show with a storyline. So come on down to experience it all first hand.

Genre of songs include ballads, rock, acapella, dance from artistes like 周杰伦、林俊杰、张惠妹、梁静茹、FIR, Mayday and many more. There will be games with attractive prizes to be given away too! Emerge2008 will be a night to remember for all!

Tickets for Emerge 2008 is priced at S$18 each. There is a promotion of S$15 for each ticket for 2 person. (All tickets come with a free drink at MOS, and a *1 for 1 drink purchase during our show) *House pours or selected drinks (ticket holders can stay on in MOS with full access to all rooms available for that night)
